Utah M&A Overview — Business Sale Activity for M&A Targets

In Q2 2026, Utah-based target companies recorded 42 M&A transactions in the supplied dataset, with aggregate disclosed transaction value of approximately $3.42 billion across 11 transactions with numeric values. Buyer activity was weighted toward strategic and operating-company acquirers, alongside institutional sponsors including Court Square Capital Management, Energy Capital Partners and Novo Tellus Capital Partners. Only six buyer rows list Utah headquarters, with the balance largely comprising out-of-state and international acquirers. Industrials and technology were the quarter’s dominant themes, representing 13 and 12 transactions, respectively, followed by healthcare with five transactions. The breadth of buyers across construction, environmental services, software, healthcare and resources reinforces Utah’s position as a durable seller and exit market.

The quarter’s largest disclosed transaction was Energy Capital Partners’ agreement to acquire Salt Lake City-based EnergySolutions for an estimated $2.0 billion, representing institutional investment in a significant Utah environmental-services platform. In healthcare, Mitsui Chemicals America agreed to acquire South Jordan-based Ultradent Products for $900 million, supporting the expansion and integration of its broader dental platform. Technology activity included Sitecore’s $225 million acquisition of Salt Lake City-based Excelsa Labs, with Scrunch joining Sitecore and its CEO remaining with the combined organization. Among industrial transactions, Granite Construction acquired Provo-based Kenny Seng Construction for $164.1 million and brought the target’s operating team into Granite.

The quarter reinforced the depth of Utah’s middle-market and institutional M&A environment, with activity spanning sponsor-backed platforms, founder-owned operating companies and resource assets. EnergySolutions alone represented approximately 58.4% of total disclosed value; excluding that transaction, disclosed Q2 value was approximately $1.42 billion. For Utah business owners and sponsors evaluating the exit market, the underlying transaction mix shows buyer interest extending well beyond the state’s technology sector into industrial services, healthcare, construction and specialized operating businesses.
