Answering the Questions Founders Ask Most

For many business owners, the first step in considering a transaction is simply understanding what their company is worth and how the process works. Owners often begin with practical questions about valuation, timing, and preparation:

  • “What is my business worth?”

  • “How long does a business sale take?”

  • “How do I prepare my business for sale?”

  • “When is the best time to sell a business in Nevada?”

These signal the beginning of a transition mindset, where clarity around worth and process becomes essential. For many Nevada founders, the question has become more pressing as population growth and investment draw national and international buyers to the state. Yet selling a business is never just a financial decision — it’s deeply personal. Many founders quietly ask, “Is my business ready to sell?” or “What will happen to my employees if I move on?” Others wonder, “What’s the best time to sell my business in 2026?” or “How do I plan succession so my family is secure?”

These aren’t just technical questions — they reflect the weight of a life’s work and the responsibility you feel to those who built it with you. Some owners wrestle with how to retire while protecting culture. Others want to know whether a buyer will keep their team in Reno, Henderson or Elko, or fear losing control and not receiving full value for what they’ve created.

At William & Wall, we know these decisions carry as much emotion as they do numbers. That’s why, from our Scottsdale office, we sit on the same side of the table as Nevada owners — guiding founders through uncertainty, balancing financial outcomes with human impact, and ensuring that when you sell, you feel both confident in the transaction and at peace with the transition.

William & Wall: Nevada M&A Spotlight

Nevada M&A transactions, 2016–2024. Source: William & Wall Nevada M&A Insights (CapIQ data)

Nevada has emerged as one of the Mountain West’s most distinctive M&A markets, with Las Vegas and Reno driving transaction activity. Deal flow reached a high point in 2021 (362 transactions valued at $40.9B) before moderating through 2023 (198 transactions, $2.3B). By 2024, aggregate value rebounded to $6.0B across 134 transactions, reflecting a measured but resilient recovery in deal activity across the state.

Several landmark transactions underscore the scale and breadth of Nevada’s M&A market. In hospitality and gaming, Las Vegas Sands sold its flagship Venetian and Palazzo properties in 2022 for $6.25B to Apollo Global Management and VICI Properties, marking one of the largest real estate and gaming deals in U.S. history. In 2019, Eldorado Resorts (Reno) agreed to its $17.3B acquisition of Caesars Entertainment, completed in 2020, reshaping the global gaming landscape and cementing Reno and Las Vegas as hubs of industry-defining consolidation. The industrials and materials sector has also seen activity, including Coeur Mining’s 2018 acquisition of the Sterling Mine in Nye County for $90M, adding to Nevada’s long-standing role as a center of precious metals and mining.

Technology and data infrastructure have become emerging drivers of Nevada M&A as well. Switch (Las Vegas), the data center operator, was acquired in 2022 for $11B by DigitalBridge and IFM Investors, highlighting Nevada’s growing role as a strategic location for digital infrastructure. Meanwhile, consumer and entertainment assets remain attractive — MGM Resorts’ $1.6B agreement to buy The Cosmopolitan in 2021 reinforced Las Vegas’s global standing in experiential real estate.

Recent Nevada deals cover every sector. In 2025, Atlassian acquired a Henderson-based software company for $1.0B, Kaiser Permanente acquired Reno’s Hometown Health Plan, and Franco-Nevada made $275M of royalty investments. In 2026, Barcelona-based Agrolimen acquired Reno-based Ollie Pets for $600M, Travel + Leisure acquired Las Vegas-based Yes& Companies for $193M, Foundation Investment Partners acquired Las Vegas-based American Key Supply, and Exxelia acquired 90% of Reno-based CalRamic Technologies with the founder keeping 10% and staying on to lead it. Builders FirstSource, Pye-Barker Fire & Safety, Arthur J. Gallagher and US Foods all expanded their Nevada footprints through acquisitions.

Taken together, these transactions affirm Nevada’s role as both a traditional hub for hospitality and mining and a growing frontier for technology, infrastructure, and real estate investment. With private equity capital and strategic buyers active across Las Vegas, Reno, and beyond, 2026–2027 presents a compelling environment for Nevada business owners evaluating succession, liquidity, or a strategic sale.

“Business owners often have limited visibility into the universe of potential buyers for their companies. Our goal with these insights is to bring greater transparency to regional M&A activity, highlight where private equity and strategic buyers are deploying capital, and help owners make more informed decisions about their company’s value, timing, and strategic alternatives.”

— Tro Panosian, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, William & Wall
